 FIRST IMPRESSION

As I went into the room of 'The Clock' the atmosphere of cinema suddenly made me feel relaxed and comfortable, comparing to the white blue light in museum, the room is completely dark and gives the impression of freedom in action to the audience.

It was also interesting how the work it self has no clear starting point and ending point. There were few video works in tate and mostly all of them has start and the end. So when the audience joins from middle of the video, there might be a chance that they'll miss the idea. I think the clock was also made in a clever way as anyone can join at anytime and still can enjoy while also getting the idea.

Watching all these characters lives in movie and thinking that they are spending the same time as ours, it felt a bit weird. It was like I was more like lost in time. while people in the movie are actually living their lives. I also found fun in looking for how the clip shows the time. Some parts even kind of made me laugh because of the cleverness in how they show it.

AFTER RESEARCH

I was very surprised when I found out that it took years and years to complete this work. I though all of the clips were just put together because they share the same time, but after hearing that he actually edited in a way so that its encouraging and audience won't get bored, I understood why this simple idea is such a masterpiece that many people enjoy.

2.Marina Abramovic

FIRST IMPRESSION

As a person who didn't know her at all, I actually walked pass her work really quick. My first thought was that all these objects placed are something that is connected to the story with women at that time, and did not think about looking more into it.

AFTER RESEARCH

After research, my perspective of her work dramatically changed. I definitely would go back and check her work at tate again. I saw the video about what happened at that gallery on youtube, and it was absolutely shocking to me. By just doing the simple work such as her standing still and placing the object,  I did not expect the things that happened there at all. Many people say that the best way to overcome negative stuff is to just ignore, but from this work I think it clearly shows that by ignoring it and not keeping the realness of the person, it makes people to attack more aggressively. I think this work also represents in our society nowadays such as social network bullying and even news commentary videos. They don't feel the presence of actual work so it makes easier for other people to attack them.

The word she always uses 'The art is present' develops in many ways as in terms of her being present at the gallery and what she does is also carried outside the society.

3.Carrie Mae Weems

 FIRST IMPRESSION

After looking at several photos, I instantly got what the work was about. The red photos were eye-catching at the museum. The photos were actually not that easy to look, so I had to actually go closer to look at them and that's when I realised there were words and text to each of the photos. I think this toughness of looking attracts audience attention and then gives the shock after, reading the words. The image was stuck into my head even after leaving the space.

AFTER RESEARCH

I thought that the photos were placed randomly, but after knowing that  there's three narratives that are working simultaneously and everything created like a film, I was actually shocked. It made me want to look back again closer and see how different I would feel if I go and looked at them like a film.
